Wage Inequality Costs Women $20B Per Year

Women in New York make 87 cents for every dollar paid to men, and when you add it all up, that ends up shorting women nearly $20 billion annually. On top of that, African American women make just 66 cents for every dollar the average white man makes, and Latinas just 56 cents. These numbers come from a new study by the National Partnership for Women & Families, which concludes that if women achieved equal pay they could on average afford one additional year’s worth of food, and six more months of rent. The disparity is pervasive despite industry or education level, and is present within all occupations.
