Was BigLaw Suicide Due To Job Stress or Antidepressant?

The widow of Stewart Dolin, a Reed Smith partner who in 2010 threw himself in front of a Chicago Transit Authority train, says his suicide was caused by a bad reaction to antidepressant drug Paxil. Wendy Dolin claims GlaxoSmithKline, the defendant, covered up suicidal side effects of the drug. Anxiety and depression are not unusual for attorneys, but a psychiatry professor called as an expert witness said that Paxil increases adult suicidal behavior. Wendy Dolin, who is a therapist, testified that her husband’s anxiety and depression symptoms were worse on the generic version of Paxil he was prescribed. The defense presented notes from Dolin’s therapist, which noted his feelings of inadequacy compared to his partners because he did not graduate from Harvard or Yale law schools.
