Washington Files $100M Suit Claiming Comcast Deceives Customers

The state of Washington has filed a $100 million lawsuit against cable giant Comcast, claiming the company illegally deceived customers in violation of the Washington Consumer Protection Act. Cited violations include charging improper service call fees, erroneous credit screening practices, and misleading 500,000 customers into paying for an ineffective Service Protection Plan to the tune of $73 million over the last five years. “This case is a classic example of a big corporation deceiving its customers for financial gain,” Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson said. “We worked with the Attorney General’s office to address every issue they raised, and we made several improvements based on their input,” A Comcast representative said. “Given that we were committed to continue working collaboratively with the Attorney General’s office, we’re surprised and disappointed that they have instead chosen litigation.”
