Who Are The Worst Supreme Court Judges?

A liberal think tank blogger calls out the Court for a variety of institutional biases. Five are on the wrong side of history as far as he is concerned, but James Clark McReynolds, a Jazz Age and early ’30s fussbudget, stands out for his unique blend of self-centered bigotry, laziness and other loathsome personal qualities. McReynolds ordered his staff never to smoke tobacco, told them where to live and called President Franklin Roosevelt “that crippled son-of-a-bitch in the White House.” He often hunted ducks, less for sport than for the pleasure of watching his personal servant wade in the icy water to retrieve the fallen birds in lieu of a dog. Only one sitting justice makes the blogger’s list.
